55 delegates with experience as sexually exploited children and youth, from across the Americas, came to this ground-breaking event. Together, in a number of modalities including theatre, art, music and writing, the delegates created and ratified a Declaration and Agenda for Action which they then presented to participating governments and international non-governmental organizations.
Gumboot Productions documented much material from these delegates, many of whom were experiencing the first opportunity that they had ever been given to talk to interested, involved people about their experiences, the issues they face and their hopes for change. The Summit organizers provided a safe and supportive environment for this to happen and many moving and profound transformations took place.
Gumboot Productions has produced a powerful 10min documentary short to accompany the presentation of the young people's Declaration and Agenda for Change to the United Nations in New York in June 1998. A 1hr broadcast special about the event , and the results that have come from it, is presently in development.
