Tree Planting

Deryk is worried that riders of bikes and four wheel quads will slowly erode the lines of the design that form the Peace Sanctuary. So, he is organizing a weekend where he hopes people will come up to the Sanctuary and "move" some of the existing bush like trees into position to protect the Sanctuary. He also invites anyone who visits the site at any time to "move" an existing bush or two onto the site - just outside the outer ring.

The idea is to protect the design by surrounding it with bush-like trees that dot the surrounding area.

Deryk has found that these bush like trees grow fairly well in the gravel material and that by pulling them up by hand - it is fairly easy to dig a new hole by hand and drop in the bush. The roots seem to get a good new start. They are very weed-like. In fact it is even recommended that any shrubs growing inside the design be pulled out and moved outside the outer ring. That way people can do something very positive and helpful for promoting peace.

" I encourage people to continue with this idea and make the trip any time (keeping in mind that the ground is frozen in the winter!)

"Hudson's Hope area is packed full of wildlife. There are so many deer that you give up keeping count. There are also lots of moose (I counted at least eight one morning while driving out of Hudson's Hope). I also saw many bears. One left his tracks across the Peace Sanctuary two days in a row.

"It is a great place to come and experience an adventure. Hudson's Hope has accomodation - bed & breakfasts, hotels, etc. It is possible to drive into town for lunch from the Sanctuary site (20 min drive approximately). There are campgrounds in Hudson's Hope with showers etc. The Bennet Dam also has a coffee shop and info shows (also a 20 min drive away).

"The people of Hudson's Hope are so friendly and helpful. Flights go into Fort St. John, B.C. Car rentals are available from the airport. The Sanctuary site is acessable by car - but a larger truck or such might be best. But I get up there in a regular mid size car!
