Publishing your Frontpage Web

Frontpage Webs require special settings on our server, if you have not contacted us to specify you are using Frontpage please do so by phoning our support dept. at 953-2680 or sending e-mail to webmaster@coastnet.com

To get your Frontpage Web published onto the Coastnet server follow these instructions. Don't forget to connect to the Internet before attemping to publish your Web. Also remember that these commands are carried out from the Frontpage Explorer, not the editor.

  1. From the "File" menu choose "Publish Frontpage Web".
  2. We recommend having a check mark beside "Publish Changed pages only".
  3. Click on the "More Webs" button.
  4. Type www.coastnet.com/~username into the dialog box. (where username is the first part of your Coastnet e-mail address). Now click the "OK" button
  5. Click "OK" on the remaining dialog box and you will be prompted for a username and password. Type in your Coastnet username and your Frontpage password and click "OK".
  6. Frontpage will now be publishing your "Web".
  7. These settings will now be saved in the dialog box from step 1 for publishing in the future. Just highlight "/~username" from the list and click "OK".

You can also edit your "Web" online by following these instructions. Note however that this method is not recommended as it is always best to have a copy of your "Web" on your own machine so that you can publish it to any location or server you have access and permissions to.

  1. From the "File" menu choose "Open Frontpage Web".
  2. Click on the "More Webs" button.
  3. Type www.coastnet.com into the dialog box and click on "List Webs".
  4. Highlight your username from the list of "Webs" and click "OK".
  5. You will be prompted for your Coastnet username and Frontpage password. Type them in and click "OK".
  6. You will now be able to edit and update your "Web" online.

Tips and Techniques

  • Remember to "Recalculate Hyperlinks" each time you publish your "Web". This will keep all your hyperlinks intact as well as ensure that your Frontpage components and themes (if used) are working properly.
  • Visit Microsoft's Frontpage Website for information regarding the use of Components and active elements in your Frontpage "Web".
