This painting is the result of a recent hiking
trip up the Black tusk near Whistler, British Columbia.
The scenery is spectacular and the hike up into the
high meadows from the lower elevation is well worth
the effort. I wanted to capture the sheer scale of
the surrounding beauty and found that a ten foot canvas
was necessary to get this airy, high up feeling.

Deryk Houston was awarded the opportunity
to stay at the Ted Harrison artist retreat on Crag lake
in the Yukon. He took the time to explore new way of
expressing himself and was completely re energized.
He would like to thank Mr. Ted Harrison for his generosity
and words of encouragement. Deryk had a fabulous, creative
