CHECKING YOUR WINDOWS95/NT MODEM FOR 56K
Please note that these procedures are to be done by yourself;
Support staff at Entirety Communications will -not- be able to
walk you through these steps.
First and foremost, of course, you must have a 56k modem. This must be of
the k56Flex variety, and NOT of the USRobotics x2 type.
Next, you must determine if your modem has the proper firmware version.
This is the 'software' that is built in to your modem, and has nothing to
do with any software or other control panels or drivers in your machine.
To find out if you have the correct firmware version for your 56k-flex
modem, follow these steps:
- 1. Open the Control Panel folder and then open the Modem Control Panel.
- 2. Click on the 'Diagnostic' tab and then click on the appropriate COM
port that has your modem listed beside it. Click on 'More Info'.
- 3. In the window that comes up, you should look for the listing beside
'ATI3'; It may also be listed under ati4, but probably not both.
- 4. Look for a string that is similar to 'V1.00HY-K56_DLS'. If you have a
version GREATER than 1.0, your modem should be ok. DO NOT SUBMIT THE FORM
IS THE NUMBER IS .520 OR .519. These are not upgraded, and you will have to
contact the manufacturer of your modem to find out how to upgrade to the
1.0 or greater version before submitting the form. Anything less will not work
on our system for 56k connections.
